Apex Robotics is seeking a visionary Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our elite R&D team in Detroit. In this role, you will lead the design and development of next-generation robotic systems, pushing the boundaries of mechanical precision and industrial efficiency. You will work in a high-collaboration environment, bridging the gap between theoretical physics and tangible, market-leading hardware solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead the full product lifecycle from conceptual design to manufacturing release.
- Utilize advanced CAD software (SolidWorks/CATIA) to create high-complexity mechanical assemblies.
- Perform FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to validate structural integrity and thermal management.
- Collaborate with electrical and software engineering teams for system integration.
- Mentor junior engineers and conduct rigorous design reviews to ensure technical excellence.
- Oversee rapid prototyping and coordinate with vendors for tooling and fabrication.
- Ensure all designs comply with industry safety standards and ISO regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 6+ years of experience in robotic system design or high-precision machinery.
- Expertise in GD&T and manufacturing processes (CNC, Injection Molding, Additive Manufacturing).
- Proven proficiency in SolidWorks, Autodesk Fusion 360, or equivalent PLM tools.
- Strong background in kinetic analysis and material science.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead cross-functional technical teams.
- Problem-solver mindset with a focus on DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFA (Design for Assembly).
