Apex Robotics Systems is seeking a visionary Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our core R&D team in Detroit. In this role, you will lead the mechanical design phase of next-generation collaborative robots and automated assembly platforms. You will work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment, utilizing cutting-edge CAD/CAM technologies to transform complex concepts into market-leading hardware solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design, simulation, and prototyping of robotic sub-systems.
- Develop detailed 3D models and manufacturing-ready drawings using SolidWorks.
- Conduct FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to optimize structural integrity and thermal management.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical and software engineers, for system integration.
- Manage vendor relationships and oversee the fabrication of custom components.
- Perform root-cause analysis on design failures and implement robust engineering improvements.
- Mentor junior engineering staff on best practices and design standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience in machine design or robotics.
- Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor.
- Strong background in GD&T and manufacturing processes (CNC machining, injection molding, 3D printing).
- Deep understanding of kinematic systems and servo-driven actuators.
- Proven track record of taking products from concept to full-scale production.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills in a high-pressure environment.
