Apex Robotics Systems is looking for a visionary Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our core R&D team in Detroit. You will be responsible for leading the mechanical architecture of next-generation autonomous robotic platforms. Responsibilities
- Lead the conceptual and detailed mechanical design of complex robotic systems from prototype to production.
- Perform structural and thermal FEA analysis to ensure system reliability under rigorous operating conditions.
- Collaborate with electrical and software engineering teams to ensure seamless sensor and actuator integration.
- Design intricate injection-molded, machined, and additive-manufactured components.
- Manage technical documentation, including BOMs, engineering drawings, and assembly instructions.
- Mentor junior engineers and conduct rigorous design reviews to maintain engineering excellence.
- Liaise with manufacturing partners to ensure Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 6+ years of professional experience in mechanical design, preferably in robotics or aerospace.
- Expert-level proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, or NX).
- Strong knowledge of material selection, heat treatment, and surface finishes.
- Demonstrated experience in FEA/CFD simulation using tools like ANSYS or Abaqus.
- Deep understanding of GD&T standards and ASME Y14.5 requirements.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to bridge technical and cross-functional teams.
