We're seeking a passionate Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to spearhead the development of next-gen automotive components in our Detroit R&D center. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to transform concepts into high-performance, manufacturable products while driving innovation in sustainable engineering practices.
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end mechanical design and prototyping of automotive systems using CAD/CAE tools
- Conduct FEA/CFD simulations for structural integrity and thermal performance optimization
- Develop detailed manufacturing drawings and specifications for production partners
- Mentor junior engineers and conduct design reviews to ensure quality standards
- Interface with suppliers to source cost-effective materials and components
- Validate designs through prototype testing and iterative refinement cycles
- Document technical specifications and contribute to IP protection strategies
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (MS preferred)
- 5+ years of experience in automotive or heavy machinery design
- Expert proficiency in SolidWorks and ANSYS Suite
- Strong knowledge of GD&T, DFMA, and ISO 9001 standards
- Experience with additive manufacturing and composite materials
- Demonstrated project management in cross-functional environments
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility
- Portfolio of complex mechanical systems design projects
