Apex Robotics Systems is seeking a visionary Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the development of next-generation robotic components. In this high-impact role, you will bridge the gap between complex theoretical concepts and robust, production-ready hardware.
You will work in our state-of-the-art facility in the heart of Detroit’s innovation corridor, collaborating with cross-functional teams of software, electrical, and systems engineers to push the boundaries of mechanical performance.
Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design lifecycle from conceptualization through prototyping to mass production.
- Perform advanced structural and thermal FEA simulations to ensure component reliability and performance.
- Develop detailed 3D CAD models and technical drawings utilizing SolidWorks or Siemens NX.
- Drive Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) initiatives to optimize production costs and timelines.
- Collaborate with sourcing and manufacturing teams to manage vendor relationships and quality control.
- Mentor junior engineering staff and conduct peer reviews on mechanical design documentation.
- Document technical specifications and maintain rigorous version control for all design iterations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 6+ years of professional experience in mechanical system design, preferably in robotics or precision manufacturing.
- Expert-level proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks/NX) and PDM systems.
- Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and material science (metals, composites, and plastics).
- Proven track record of taking complex mechanical assemblies from initial design to market launch.
- Experience with motion control systems, actuators, and sensor integration.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, iterative design environment.
