Are you ready to shape the future of autonomous systems? Apex Robotics is seeking a visionary Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our elite R&D team in Detroit. In this role, you will take ownership of the full design lifecycle—from conceptualization and prototyping to production-ready documentation for next-generation robotic platforms.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex kinematic challenges, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in industrial automation.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of complex mechanical assemblies and robotic components.
- Perform detailed FEA and structural analysis to ensure high-performance reliability.
- Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes (CNC, 3D printing, injection molding).
- Collaborate with electrical and firmware engineers to ensure seamless system integration.
- Manage CAD data integrity and documentation within our PDM environment.
- Mentor junior engineering staff and conduct rigorous design reviews.
- Support prototype assembly, testing, and field validation efforts.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in product design, robotics, or complex machinery.
- Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor.
- Strong working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Proven track record in design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA).
- Hands-on experience with mechanical testing, sensor integration, and motion control.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, iterative design environment.
