Apex Robotics & Automation is seeking a visionary Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our high-impact R&D team in Detroit. Responsibilities
- Design and iterate complex mechanical assemblies using SolidWorks or Creo for high-speed robotics.
- Conduct rigorous FEA and thermal analysis to ensure structural integrity and performance under extreme conditions.
- Lead DFM (Design for Manufacturing) initiatives to optimize production costs and assembly timelines.
- Collaborate with electrical and software engineering teams to integrate actuators, sensors, and control systems.
- Manage the full product development lifecycle, from conceptual prototyping to final production validation.
- Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices in mechanical drafting and design standards.
- Develop detailed technical documentation, including BOMs, assembly manuals, and testing reports.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of professional experience in mechanical product design, ideally in robotics or heavy automation.
- Expert proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software (SolidWorks preferred).
- Strong understanding of material science, mechanical fasteners, and motion control components.
- Proven ability to perform GD&T to industry standards (ASME Y14.5).
- Experience with CNC machining, 3D printing, and sheet metal fabrication processes.
- Excellent communication skills and experience leading collaborative technical projects.
