Responsibilities
- Lead and execute in-depth investigative projects from conception through publication/broadcast, identifying compelling story angles and developing comprehensive research strategies.
- Conduct rigorous interviews with sources, whistleblowers, and experts, ensuring accuracy and maintaining confidentiality where required.
- Analyze complex data sets, public records, legal documents, and financial statements to uncover hidden patterns and substantiate claims.
- Craft meticulously researched, engaging, and ethically sound narratives suitable for various platforms including long-form articles, multimedia packages, and broadcast scripts.
- Collaborate effectively with editors, producers, legal counsel, and fact-checkers to ensure all content adheres to the highest journalistic standards and legal guidelines.
- Manage multiple investigations simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced news environment.
- Mentor junior journalists and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and journalistic excellence.
- Stay abreast of emerging investigative techniques, data tools, and relevant legal and ethical considerations in journalism.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Political Science, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in investigative journalism, with a demonstrable portfolio of impactful published or broadcast work.
- Proven expertise in data journalism tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, R, Python) and open-source intelligence (OSINT) gathering techniques.
- Exceptional interviewing skills, with the ability to establish trust and extract critical information from diverse sources.
- Superior writing, editing, and storytelling abilities across digital, print, and broadcast mediums.
- Strong understanding of media law, ethics, and best practices in investigative reporting.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and function effectively within a collaborative team environment.
- Fluency in a second language (e.g., Spanish, Mandarin) is a significant advantage.
