Responsibilities
- Conceptualize, research, and execute high-impact, long-form investigative reporting projects from inception to publication.
- Cultivate, verify, and maintain a robust network of confidential sources across public and private sectors.
- Execute advanced public records requests (FOIA, state-level equivalents) and systematically analyze complex datasets.
- Collaborate with interactive designers, photojournalists, and multimedia producers to build immersive, multi-platform features.
- Uphold the highest standards of journalistic integrity, ensuring all pieces are meticulously fact-checked and legally sound.
- Represent Apex Media Group on panels, internal podcasts, and broadcast media to discuss published investigations.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 6 years of dedicated experience in investigative reporting, preferably at a major digital or print publication.
- A distinguished portfolio of published work demonstrating deep-dive research, analytical rigor, and narrative excellence.
- Advanced proficiency in data journalism techniques, including SQL, Python, or advanced Excel for investigative analysis.
- Thorough knowledge of media law, copyright, libel, and standard ethical journalistic frameworks.
- Proven ability to work independently under long-term project timelines while managing concurrent shorter beats.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Political Science, or equivalent field.
