Responsibilities
- Lead long-form investigative projects from conception through to publication.
- Cultivate and maintain a deep network of reliable, high-level sources across public and private sectors.
- Analyze massive datasets and public records to identify patterns of institutional misconduct.
- Collaborate with multimedia producers and data journalists to create immersive, multi-platform storytelling experiences.
- Adhere to the highest standards of journalistic ethics, editorial integrity, and fact-checking protocols.
- Represent the organization in public forums, industry conferences, and media interviews as a subject matter expert.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a newsroom environment, specifically focused on investigative or hard news beats.
- Proven track record of producing high-impact stories that resulted in policy change or public awareness.
- Advanced proficiency in public records requests (FOIA/FOIL) and deep-web research techniques.
- Experience with data analysis software and digital storytelling tools (e.g., Tableau, Flourish, CMS management).
- Strong legal literacy regarding libel, defamation, and journalistic privilege.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines while managing long-term, complex projects.
