Responsibilities
- Analyze and assess complex commercial insurance applications to determine risk exposure and coverage eligibility
- Develop customized insurance policies and pricing strategies aligned with client needs and regulatory requirements
- Lead negotiations with brokers and clients to secure optimal terms and conditions
- Maintain accurate underwriting records and documentation in compliance with industry standards
- Mentor junior underwriters and contribute to process improvement initiatives
- Monitor emerging risks and market trends to inform underwriting strategy
- Collaborate with claims and actuarial teams to refine risk assessment methodologies
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of commercial insurance underwriting experience with specialization in property/casualty
- Professional designation (CPCU, ARM, or AU) strongly preferred
- Advanced proficiency in underwriting software (Guidewire, Duck Creek) and MS Office Suite
- Exceptional analytical skills with ability to interpret complex financial and risk data
- Strong negotiation and communication skills with diverse stakeholders
- Proven track record of achieving underwriting profitability targets
- Knowledge of Connecticut insurance regulations and compliance requirements
