Responsibilities
- Analyze, evaluate, and underwrite complex commercial insurance risks, focusing on Property & Casualty, General Liability, and Workers' Compensation lines.
- Develop and maintain profitable relationships with brokers and agents, providing superior service and expert guidance on policy structures.
- Manage a substantial book of business, ensuring renewal retention and identifying opportunities for new business acquisition.
- Collaborate with actuaries, claims, and sales teams to develop tailored insurance solutions and enhance underwriting guidelines.
- Stay abreast of market trends, regulatory changes, and competitive landscapes to inform underwriting strategy and product development.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior underwriters, fostering their professional development and ensuring adherence to best practices.
- Lead discussions and negotiations on large and complex accounts, driving favorable outcomes for both the company and clients.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field; CPCU or equivalent professional designation preferred.
- Minimum of 7+ years of progressive experience in commercial underwriting, with a strong emphasis on Property & Casualty.
- Proven expertise in analyzing financial statements, loss runs, and complex risk factors to make sound underwriting decisions.
- Exceptional negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills, capable of building rapport with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a large portfolio of accounts effectively and prioritize multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment.
- Proficiency with underwriting systems, CRMs, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks governing commercial insurance.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team, demonstrating leadership qualities.
