Responsibilities
- Analyze, evaluate, and underwrite complex commercial lines accounts (e.g., Property, General Liability, Auto, Umbrella) within company guidelines and risk appetite.
- Develop and maintain strong, profitable relationships with brokers and agents, providing exceptional service and technical expertise.
- Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing with producers to secure profitable business while maintaining underwriting discipline.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments, utilizing internal and external data sources to make sound underwriting decisions.
- Mentor and guide junior underwriters, sharing knowledge and best practices to foster team growth.
- Collaborate with actuaries, claims, and sales teams to ensure a holistic approach to client needs and portfolio management.
- Stay abreast of market trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks to adapt underwriting strategies accordingly.
- Prepare and present reports on underwriting performance, profitability, and portfolio health to management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in commercial lines underwriting, with a strong focus on Property & Casualty.
- Demonstrated expertise in evaluating complex risks, pricing, and policy terms.
- Proven track record of building and maintaining strong relationships with brokers and clients.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong negotiation, communication (written and verbal), and presentation abilities.
- Proficiency in underwriting systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Relevant industry designations (e.g., CPCU, AINS, AU) are highly preferred.
