Responsibilities
- Analyze complex commercial insurance applications, financial statements, and loss runs to assess risk accurately and determine appropriate terms and conditions.
- Underwrite and price a diverse portfolio of commercial property, casualty, and specialty lines of business, adhering to company guidelines and risk appetite.
- Negotiate terms and conditions with brokers and agents, fostering strong relationships while maintaining underwriting discipline.
- Develop and maintain expert knowledge of market trends, competitive landscapes, and emerging risks within the commercial insurance industry.
- Mentor and guide junior underwriters, sharing expertise and promoting best practices within the team.
- Collaborate with actuaries, claims, and sales teams to develop innovative products and improve overall portfolio performance.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal underwriting policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in commercial underwriting, with a strong focus on middle market or large accounts.
- Proven track record of managing a profitable book of business and achieving underwriting targets.
- Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Relevant professional designations (e.g., CPCU, AU, ARM) highly preferred.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, and results-oriented environment.
