Responsibilities
- Analyze and underwrite complex commercial risks within established underwriting authority limits.
- Collaborate with independent agents to build strong relationships and secure profitable new business.
- Monitor and manage account retention and profitability across a designated regional territory.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments including loss control reports and financial statements.
- Develop and implement underwriting strategies to achieve annual premium and loss ratio targets.
- Mentor junior underwriting staff and participate in peer review sessions.
- Stay abreast of market trends, regulatory changes, and competitive landscape shifts.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in Commercial Lines underwriting.
- Strong knowledge of Property, General Liability, and Workers Compensation lines.
- Proven ability to manage a $5M+ portfolio with consistent profitability.
- Active CPCU, ARM, or AU designation is highly preferred.
- Exceptional negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in industry-standard underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
