Responsibilities
- Underwriting Authority: Exercise delegated authority to underwrite, bind, and renew commercial risks, ensuring they align with the company's appetite and risk profile.
- Risk Analysis: Conduct in-depth analysis of financial statements, loss runs, and operational risks to determine appropriate coverage and pricing.
- Portfolio Management: Monitor the performance of the book of business, identifying trends and implementing strategies to mitigate losses and improve retention rates.
- Business Development: Collaborate with brokers and agents to develop new business opportunities and maintain strong industry relationships.
- Market Intelligence: Stay abreast of market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes to ensure competitive positioning.
- Mentorship: Lead and mentor junior underwriters, providing guidance on technical underwriting standards and operational processes.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in commercial lines underwriting (Property, Liability, or Business Interruption).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Risk Management, or a related field; professional qualifications such as ACII, CII, CPCU, or FCII are highly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in underwriting software (e.g., Guidewire, Duck Creek) and advanced Excel skills for data analysis.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to negotiate effectively with brokers and clients.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in assessing complex data and documentation.
