Responsibilities
- Analyze and underwrite complex commercial risks within established authority levels.
- Develop and maintain strong, profitable relationships with key agency partners.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments using actuarial data, site inspections, and financial analysis.
- Monitor book performance, identifying trends and adjusting underwriting strategies to meet profitability goals.
- Collaborate with product development and claims teams to refine policy language and coverage offerings.
- Mentor junior underwriting staff and provide technical guidance on complex account negotiations.
- Ensure compliance with state insurance regulations and internal company guidelines.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in commercial lines underwriting, specifically in Middle Market or Specialty lines.
- Professional designation (CPCU, ARM, or AU) strongly preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in risk modeling software and MS Excel.
- Proven track record of managing a profitable book of business exceeding $5M in premium.
- Exceptional negotiation, communication, and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel up to 15% to visit agency partners and insured locations.
