Responsibilities
- Evaluate and analyze complex commercial property and casualty risks to determine coverage eligibility.
- Maintain a high-quality, profitable book of business by applying advanced underwriting guidelines.
- Build and manage strong relationships with retail and wholesale brokers to secure preferred business.
- Collaborate with the actuarial team to refine pricing strategies and risk modeling.
- Mentor junior underwriting staff and participate in peer review sessions to ensure technical excellence.
- Monitor market trends and competitor activity to adjust strategy in real-time.
- Present detailed risk assessment reports to senior leadership for large-account approvals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Risk Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in commercial lines underwriting (Property/General Liability/Umbrella).
- Professional designation preferred (CPCU, ARM, or CIC).
- Expert-level proficiency in risk assessment and contract interpretation.
- Exceptional negotiation and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage a $10M+ gross written premium book.
- Advanced analytical skills and experience with industry-standard underwriting software.
