Responsibilities
- Evaluate, rate, and price complex commercial lines risks, including Property, Casualty, General Liability, Workers' Compensation, and Auto.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and agents, providing exceptional service and technical expertise.
- Mentor and guide junior underwriters, fostering their professional development and ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and economic conditions to identify potential impacts on the underwriting portfolio.
- Collaborate with claims, actuarial, and sales teams to achieve profitable growth and client retention.
- Negotiate terms and conditions with brokers, ensuring profitable outcomes while meeting client needs.
- Maintain thorough documentation of underwriting decisions and rationale in accordance with company standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field (Master's preferred).
- 5+ years of progressive experience in commercial lines underwriting, preferably with a focus on middle-market accounts.
- Proven track record of strong decision-making, analytical, and negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building rapport with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency with underwriting software and strong analytical tools (e.g., Excel, risk modeling platforms).
- Relevant professional designations such as CPCU, AINS, ARM, or AU are highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse book of business and meet production goals.
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and industry best practices in commercial insurance.
