Summit Shield Insurance Group is seeking a highly analytical and relationship-driven Senior Commercial Lines Underwriter to join our team in the heart of Hartford's insurance district. You will play a pivotal role in managing a diverse portfolio of middle-market risks, driving profitable growth, and maintaining high service standards for our broker partners.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and evaluate complex commercial insurance risks to ensure alignment with underwriting guidelines.
- Manage a high-value portfolio of commercial accounts, including renewal and new business underwriting.
- Develop and nurture strong relationships with key brokerage partners to grow our regional market share.
- Collaborate with risk engineering and claims departments to assess risk mitigation strategies for policyholders.
- Monitor portfolio performance metrics and implement corrective actions to ensure profitability targets are met.
- Mentor junior underwriting staff and provide technical guidance on complex policy interpretation.
- Represent the company at industry events and networking functions to enhance our brand presence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in Commercial Lines Underwriting.
- Deep knowledge of P&C coverage forms, policy language, and state regulatory requirements.
- Proven track record of managing a profitable book of business.
- Professional designations such as CPCU, ARM, or CIC are highly preferred.
- Exceptional negotiation skills and the ability to articulate underwriting decisions to producers.
- Proficiency in industry-standard underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
