Responsibilities
- Policy Development: Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS management systems (ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001) aligned with local and international regulations.
- Compliance Oversight: Monitor regulatory changes in Ontario and federal jurisdictions, ensuring all company operations remain compliant with environmental and safety laws.
- Incident Investigation: Lead root cause analysis for accidents, near-misses, and environmental incidents to prevent recurrence.
- Audits & Inspections: Conduct regular internal audits, workplace inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and mitigate risks proactively.
- Training & Education: Design and deliver EHS training programs, toolbox talks, and emergency response drills for employees at all levels.
- Emergency Response: Coordinate emergency preparedness plans and ensure first responders are adequately trained and equipped.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in EHS management within the industrial or manufacturing sector.
- Certifications: Professional certification such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CEP (Certified Environmental Professional), or CHST is highly preferred.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of OSHA regulations, Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, and environmental permitting processes.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate complex regulations into actionable operational strategies.
- Leadership: Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence culture and drive behavioral change regarding safety.
