Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the histology laboratory, ensuring all diagnostic processes are accurate, timely, and compliant with MHRA and ISO 15189 regulations.
  • Perform complex tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining procedures with a focus on precision and quality control.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of junior technologists and laboratory assistants, providing guidance on technical procedures and quality assurance.
  • Perform critical analysis of tissue samples and contribute to the final diagnosis in complex pathology cases.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, troubleshooting technical issues to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure strict adherence to health and safety protocols and biosafety level 2 (BSL-2) containment guidelines.
  • Participate in internal and external quality assurance audits to maintain accreditation standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science, Medical Technology, or a related life science field (MBBCh/MLSc equivalent).
  • Mandatory: Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience in a clinical pathology laboratory, with a specific focus on Histopathology or Cytology.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory information systems (LIS) and digital pathology platforms (e.g., Pathology Informatics).
