Responsibilities
- Perform accurate and timely coding of inpatient, outpatient, and emergency department records using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 guidelines.
- Review medical records for completeness and accuracy, providing feedback to clinical staff to minimize documentation gaps.
- Analyze claims data to identify trends, resolve complex coding issues, and improve overall revenue cycle performance.
- Ensure strict adherence to HIPAA compliance standards and internal auditing protocols.
- Mentor junior coders and participate in quarterly coding audits and continuing education seminars.
- Collaborate with providers and revenue cycle management to clarify clinical documentation.
Qualifications
- Certification required: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCS-P (AAPC/AHIMA).
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in medical coding, preferably in a hospital or multi-specialty clinic setting.
- Deep knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS Level II, and ICD-10-PCS.
- Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with clinical staff and administration.
