Responsibilities
- Analyze medical records and physician documentation to assign accurate ICD-10 and CPT coding for diagnosis and procedures.
- Conduct regular audits of medical records to ensure compliance with HIPAA, Medicare, and Medicaid regulations.
- Collaborate with billing and reimbursement teams to resolve denials and improve revenue cycle efficiency.
- Mentor junior coders and provide ongoing training on coding updates and best practices.
- Participate in internal quality improvement initiatives to reduce coding errors and improve claim accuracy.
- Stay current with changes in medical coding guidelines and healthcare legislation.
- Prepare and submit coding reports to management for strategic decision-making.
Qualifications
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) required; CPC or CCS preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in inpatient or outpatient medical coding.
- Proficient in EMR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or AthenaHealth.
- Deep knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding guidelines.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex medical records.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for cross-departmental collaboration.
