Apex Health Systems is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Medical Coder to join our revenue cycle management team. We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional patient care, and accurate coding is at the heart of our financial health and compliance.
As a Senior Coder, you will play a pivotal role in translating clinical documentation into standardized codes, ensuring billing accuracy and adherence to HIPAA regulations. You will mentor junior coders and work closely with physicians to clarify documentation.
Responsibilities
- Audit and Assign Codes: Accurately assign ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS codes to medical records, ensuring 100% compliance with payer guidelines and regulatory standards.
- Documentation Improvement: Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to recommend documentation improvements that support appropriate code selection and maximize reimbursement.
- Mentorship: Lead and mentor junior coders, providing training on complex coding scenarios and coding updates.
- Compliance: Monitor coding trends and payer denials to identify root causes and implement corrective action plans.
- Reporting: Generate and analyze coding reports to support internal quality assurance initiatives.
- Regulatory Updates: Stay current with changes in coding regulations, medical terminology, and industry best practices.
Qualifications
- Certification: Current RHIT, RHIA, or CPC (Certified Professional Coder) credential required.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in inpatient or outpatient medical coding.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner) and coding software.
- Knowledge: Deep understanding of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT coding principles.
- Education: Associate degree or higher in Health Information Management or a related field.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with clinical staff.
- Attention to Detail: Strong analytical skills with a focus on accuracy and detail-oriented work.
