Responsibilities
- Assign accurate ICD-10-CM and HCPCS Level II codes to medical records based on provider documentation and established guidelines.
- Conduct regular audits of medical records to ensure coding compliance and identify areas for process improvement.
- Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to clarify documentation and resolve complex coding queries.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes, including CMS updates and ICD-10 coding manuals.
- Train and mentor junior coders to ensure departmental quality standards are met.
- Monitor accounts receivable and identify trends in claim denials to reduce rejections and improve collections.
- Utilize reporting tools to track coding productivity and accuracy metrics.
Qualifications
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) / Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) required.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in hospital or physician-based medical coding.
- Thorough knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding principles.
- Strong proficiency in Epic, Cerner, or equivalent EHR systems.
- Excellent analytical skills and a keen eye for detail.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while meeting tight deadlines.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with clinical staff.
