Responsibilities
- Review and abstract medical documentation to assign accurate ICD-10 and CPT codes.
- Conduct regular audits of coding records to ensure compliance with CMS and HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to resolve documentation queries and improve coding accuracy.
- Train junior coders and participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure accurate reimbursement by identifying and appealing denied claims.
- Stay updated on the latest coding guidelines and regulatory changes.
Qualifications
- Certification such as RHIA, RHIT, CPC, or CCS preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in medical coding, preferably in a hospital or large multi-specialty practice.
- Proficiency in Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner).
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Exceptional attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Valid RN or Medical Assistant license is a plus.
