Responsibilities
- Accurately assign ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes to patient records based on provider documentation and medical records.
- Perform regular and random audits of medical records to identify coding discrepancies, documentation gaps, and potential revenue leakage.
- Collaborate closely with clinical staff, physicians, and billing teams to resolve complex coding queries and ensure documentation clarity.
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations, CMS guidelines, and internal compliance standards.
- Participate in quarterly coding update training to stay current with industry changes and regulatory shifts.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior coders and medical records staff.
Qualifications
- Certification as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, or CPC-H required.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive coding experience in a hospital or multi-specialty clinic setting.
- In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.
- Proficiency with EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth) and coding software.
- Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
