At Apex Robotics, we are seeking a visionary Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the development of next-generation industrial robotic systems. In this role, you will bridge the gap between complex conceptual design and high-precision manufacturing.
You will work in a state-of-the-art facility in the heart of Detroit, collaborating with cross-functional teams of software engineers, electrical experts, and manufacturing specialists to bring disruptive technologies to the global market.
Responsibilities
- Lead the full product lifecycle from conceptualization and design to prototyping and mass production.
- Develop detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor.
- Perform rigorous FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to ensure structural integrity and performance under dynamic loads.
- Select optimal materials and manufacturing processes (machining, injection molding, additive manufacturing) to balance cost and performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical systems with electronics and control software.
- Mentor junior engineers and conduct thorough design reviews to maintain engineering excellence.
- Oversee testing and validation processes to meet stringent industry safety and quality standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of professional experience in mechanical design, preferably within the robotics or aerospace industry.
- Expert-level proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and PDM systems.
- Strong grasp of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and mechanical tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Proven track record of designing high-precision, automated machinery.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach to hardware troubleshooting.
- Strong communication skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, iterative design environment.
