Responsibilities
- Risk Assessment: Evaluate complex insurance applications and determine appropriate coverage terms, limits, and premiums based on risk profiles.
- Portfolio Management: Maintain and underwrite a diverse portfolio of accounts, ensuring profitability and compliance with company guidelines.
- Market Analysis: Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes to advise leadership on strategic underwriting decisions.
- Collaboration: Partner with the sales team to support new business development and provide technical expertise to clients.
- Process Improvement: Identify areas for operational efficiency within the underwriting department and implement best practices.
- Guideline Adherence: Ensure all underwriting actions strictly adhere to internal policies and state regulations.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Risk Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of experience in Property & Casualty (P&C) or Commercial Insurance underwriting.
- Licensure: Must hold a valid state insurance license and be eligible for licensing in New York.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in underwriting software (e.g., Duck Creek, Guidewire, Sapiens) and advanced Excel skills.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
