- Collaborate with Physicians: Clarify clinical documentation and assign appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes.
- Compliance Management: Ensure all coding practices adhere to HIPAA regulations and CMS guidelines.
- Denial Management: Analyze denied claims and implement corrective actions to reduce financial loss.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct regular audits of medical records to maintain high coding accuracy rates.
- Process Improvement: Identify trends in documentation gaps and work with providers to improve clinical documentation integrity.

Responsibilities
- Assign accurate medical codes (ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS) to patient records based on documentation.
- Review medical charts for completeness and accuracy before coding to ensure proper reimbursement.
- Communicate with billing specialists and physicians to resolve coding queries and clarify clinical scenarios.
- Monitor and audit coding data to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Analyze claims data to identify trends, denials, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Stay current with changes in medical coding guidelines and regulatory updates.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patient health information (PHI) in strict accordance with HIPAA standards.
Qualifications
- Certification: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, or CPC-H preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in professional medical coding.
- Education: Associate’s Degree in Health Information Technology or related field required.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of Electronic Health Records (EHR) and coding software.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional ability to analyze complex medical records and data.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with clinical staff and administration.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of healthcare compliance and billing regulations.
