Responsibilities
- Review medical records and assign accurate ICD-10 and CPT/HCPCS codes to support medical billing and documentation.
- Conduct regular audits of coding practices to ensure compliance with HIPAA, Medicare, and payer guidelines.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior coders to maintain high departmental standards.
- Analyze coding data to identify trends, resolve complex claims, and reduce denials.
- Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to clarify documentation and ensure complete medical records.
- Stay current with changes in medical coding guidelines and regulatory updates.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in medical coding (Hospital or Physician practice preferred).
- Current and active credentials such as RHIT, RHIA, RHDS, CCS, or CPC.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding manuals.
- Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, AthenaHealth).
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex coding concepts to non-coders.
