Responsibilities
- Assign accurate ICD-10 and CPT-4 medical codes to patient records based on clinical documentation.
- Perform regular audits of medical records to ensure coding accuracy and identify potential revenue leakage.
- Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to clarify ambiguous documentation and resolve coding queries.
- Stay updated on the latest healthcare regulations, payer guidelines, and industry updates.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards.
- Train junior coders and provide mentorship on coding best practices.
- Generate and analyze reports to identify trends in coding accuracy and reimbursement.
Qualifications
- Certification (RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC, or similar) is required.
- Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in medical coding, preferably in a hospital or multi-specialty clinic setting.
- Deep understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.
- Proficiency in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and coding software (e.g., Epic, Cerner).
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
