In this position, you will serve as the gatekeeper for medical accuracy, ensuring that every diagnosis and procedure is translated into the appropriate billing codes. Your expertise will directly influence our revenue cycle and ensure our clients receive top-tier service.
Responsibilities
- Medical Coding Accuracy: Review patient records and clinical documentation to assign accurate ICD-10 and CPT codes, ensuring 100% compliance with CMS and AAPC guidelines.
- Compliance Auditing: Conduct regular internal audits to identify coding errors, undercoding, or overcoding risks, and implement corrective action plans.
- Revenue Cycle Support: Collaborate with the billing department and physicians to resolve complex claims denials and improve claim acceptance rates.
- Guideline Adherence: Stay abreast of the latest healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and state-specific compliance laws, and update coding protocols accordingly.
- Team Mentorship: Mentor junior coders and provide training on best practices, coding software usage, and documentation improvement.
- Reporting: Generate and analyze coding metrics reports to identify trends and areas for operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- Certification: RHIT, RHIA, or CCS credential required; CPC or COC preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in acute care or specialty medical coding.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency with Epic, Cerner, or similar EHR systems and encoder software (e.g., 3M MTS, Optum).
- Analytical Skills: Strong attention to detail with exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with healthcare providers and administrative staff.
- Education: Associate’s degree in Health Information Technology or a related field.
