Responsibilities
- Accurately assign ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS codes to medical records using advanced medical software.
- Perform comprehensive medical record reviews to ensure documentation supports the assigned codes and meets regulatory standards.
- Conduct regular audits and gap analyses to identify trends in documentation and coding practices.
- Collaborate with clinical staff and physicians to clarify documentation and resolve coding queries.
- Ensure strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and internal compliance policies.
- Maintain and update the master patient index and coding reference materials.
Qualifications
- CPC, CRC, or RHIT certification (or equivalent 5+ years of recent coding experience).
- Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
- Strong working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
- Proficiency in Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, AthenaHealth).
- Exceptional analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with clinical teams.
