Responsibilities
- Review medical records and assign accurate ICD-10 and CPT codes to support billing and clinical documentation.
- Perform regular audits of coding practices to identify errors, trends, and opportunities for revenue improvement.
- Collaborate closely with physicians and healthcare providers to clarify clinical documentation queries.
- Ensure full compliance with HIPAA regulations, CMS guidelines, and internal coding policies.
- Train junior staff and mentor them on coding best practices and regulatory updates.
- Analyze claims denial patterns and implement corrective action plans to reduce rejections.
Qualifications
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC, CCS, RHIA, or RHIT) required; CCS-P preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in hospital or physician-based medical coding.
- Deep knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS Level II, and medical terminology.
- Strong understanding of medical billing cycles, denials management, and compliance.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software (e.g., Epic, Cerner).
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail and high accuracy standards.
