Responsibilities
- Accurately assign ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 medical codes to patient records based on clinical documentation.
- Perform comprehensive chart audits to identify coding gaps and ensure compliance with ICD-10 and CPT guidelines.
- Analyze denied claims to determine root causes and implement corrective action plans to reduce revenue leakage.
- Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to clarify documentation requirements for complex procedures.
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and internal coding compliance standards.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and coding education programs.
Qualifications
- Certification as a RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CPC (Must be current).
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in medical coding, preferably in a hospital or large multi-specialty clinic.
- Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, HCPCS Level II, and MS-DRG coding systems.
- Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, AthenaHealth).
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and high accuracy.
