Responsibilities
- Assign accurate ICD-10 and CPT/HCPCS codes to medical records in compliance with AHIMA and AAPC guidelines.
- Perform comprehensive medical record audits to identify documentation gaps and ensure proper coding compliance.
- Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to clarify clinical documentation and resolve coding queries.
- Mentor junior coders and conduct peer reviews to maintain high coding quality standards.
- Monitor revenue cycle trends and participate in quarterly coding compliance meetings.
- Stay current with changes in medical coding regulations, payer policies, and industry updates.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in acute care medical coding (ICD-10, CPT).
- Current certification as a CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) or RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of healthcare reimbursement models and compliance standards (HIPAA, Stark Law).
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex medical records accurately.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on cross-departmental collaboration.
- Proficiency in EMR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner) and coding software.
