Responsibilities
- Code Assignment: Accurately assign ICD-10 and CPT-10 codes to patient records using advanced coding guidelines and clinical documentation.
- Documentation Review: Perform regular audits of medical records to ensure documentation supports the selected codes and meets regulatory standards.
- Revenue Cycle Support: Collaborate with billing specialists to resolve claim denials and improve the overall revenue cycle efficiency.
- Compliance & Auditing: Ensure strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and internal compliance policies during the coding process.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and training to junior coders, fostering a culture of continuous learning and accuracy.
- Continued Education: Stay abreast of the latest coding updates, CPT changes, and modifier guidelines.
Qualifications
- Certification: RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or CCS-P certification required.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in medical coding and billing within a hospital or large practice setting.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and modifier guidelines.
- Software Skills: Proficiency in Epic or Cerner EHR systems and clearinghouse software (e.g., Change Healthcare, RelayHealth).
- Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze complex clinical data and resolve coding discrepancies.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with physicians and administrative staff.
