Responsibilities
- Medical Coding: Accurately assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes to patient records based on clinical documentation.
- Quality Assurance: Perform routine audits of claims and charts to ensure compliance with regulatory standards (CMS, HIPAA, AHA).
- Collaboration: Work closely with physicians and healthcare providers to clarify clinical queries and resolve documentation gaps.
- Process Improvement: Identify trends in coding errors and recommend process improvements to enhance revenue cycle efficiency.
- Compliance: Stay current with evolving coding guidelines, payer policies, and healthcare legislation.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or related field (Associate’s degree with significant experience accepted).
- Certification: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, or CPC certification is required.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in inpatient or outpatient medical coding.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in electronic health record systems (Epic, Cerner) and coding software (3M Encoder).
- Soft Skills: Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical problem-solving abilities.
