Responsibilities
- Accurately assign ICD-10 and CPT-4 codes to patient medical records and hospital charts based on physician documentation.
- Conduct regular audits of medical documentation to ensure compliance with coding guidelines and regulatory standards.
- Review and resolve denied claims by communicating effectively with billing teams and providers.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the latest medical coding updates, payer guidelines, and regulatory changes.
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare providers to clarify documentation and ensure proper coding.
- Train and mentor junior coders on best practices and software usage.
Qualifications
- Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) from AHIMA or AAPC.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in medical coding within a hospital or private practice setting.
- Profound understanding of the National Health Service (NHS) coding standards and UK healthcare regulations.
- Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech.
- Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
