Responsibilities
- Review and analyze complex medical documentation to assign accurate ICD-10 and CPT codes.
- Ensure 100% compliance with HIPAA, JCAHO, CMS, and payer-specific coding guidelines.
- Conduct regular internal audits and quality assurance checks to identify documentation gaps and coding errors.
- Collaborate directly with physicians and billing staff to resolve complex claims and denials.
- Train junior coding staff and participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives.
- Stay updated on the latest coding updates, regulatory changes, and industry best practices.
Qualifications
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in medical coding and healthcare compliance.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, AthenaHealth).
- Exceptional attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
