Responsibilities
- Assign accurate ICD-10 and CPT-4 codes to inpatient and outpatient medical records while ensuring full compliance with CMS guidelines.
- Perform regular audits of coding practices to identify trends, errors, and opportunities for revenue enhancement.
- Review and interpret clinical documentation to resolve query issues and ensure accurate representation of patient diagnoses.
- Mentor junior coders and participate in ongoing training sessions to maintain team proficiency.
- Collaborate with billing specialists and clinical staff to resolve outstanding claims and denials.
- Stay abreast of changes in healthcare regulations, coding updates, and reimbursement models.
Qualifications
- Must hold a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), or RHIA/RHIT certification.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of progressive coding experience in a hospital or multi-specialty clinic setting.
- Proficient in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Altos).
- Deep understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
