Responsibilities
- Accurately assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II codes to patient medical records in accordance with HIPAA guidelines and payer guidelines.
- Perform complex coding audits and identify areas for process improvement within the coding department.
- Review and validate documentation to ensure complete and accurate coding for optimal reimbursement.
- Mentor junior coders and participate in ongoing education regarding coding updates, regulatory changes, and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify clinical documentation queries and resolve coding discrepancies.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient health information (PHI) in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Analyze coding trends to provide actionable insights to the revenue cycle management team.
Qualifications
- RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCS-P certification required.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional medical coding experience in a hospital or acute care setting.
- Comprehensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
- Proficiency with coding software (e.g., 3M Encoder, Epic, or equivalent) is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of Medicare and commercial payer reimbursement policies.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
