Responsibilities
- Assign accurate ICD-10 and CPT/HCPCS codes to medical records and documentation.
- Perform regular audits of coding practices to ensure 100% compliance with HIPAA and payer guidelines.
- Review and resolve coding queries and appeals from insurance payers.
- Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to clarify documentation and ensure complete coding.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current coding guidelines and regulatory changes (e.g., CMS updates).
- Train junior coders and participate in the development of departmental coding policies.
Qualifications
- Active certification as RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC, or CPC-H preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in hospital or physician-based coding.
- Strong proficiency in Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner).
- Deep understanding of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
