Responsibilities
- Analyze medical records, physician documentation, and operative reports to assign accurate ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS codes based on established guidelines.
- Ensure 100% compliance with provincial coding standards and regulatory requirements to minimize claim denials.
- Liaise with clinical staff and physicians to resolve clinical queries and clarify documentation discrepancies.
- Conduct regular audits of coding practices to identify trends, errors, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Train and mentor junior coders, sharing best practices and ensuring team proficiency.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of healthcare regulations, payer policies, and coding updates.
Qualifications
- Certification as RHIT, CCS, CPC, or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of acute care or specialty coding experience.
- Strong working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner) and specialized coding software.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with clinical staff.
