Responsibilities
- Code Accuracy: Review medical records and assign the appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes with high precision to ensure optimal reimbursement.
- Compliance Audits: Perform internal audits on coding practices to ensure strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and payer guidelines.
- Clinical Collaboration: Partner with physicians and clinical staff to clarify documentation and resolve coding queries efficiently.
- Denial Management: Analyze denied claims to identify trends and implement strategies to reduce future denials and improve revenue cycle efficiency.
- Mentorship: Guide and mentor junior coders, providing training on coding updates and best practices.
- Regulatory Updates: Stay current with the latest ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding updates and regulatory changes.
Qualifications
- Certification: RHIT, RHIA, or CCS certification required; CPC or CCS-P preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in inpatient or outpatient medical coding.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in coding software (e.g., Epic, Cerner) and electronic health record systems.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional analytical skills with a keen eye for detail to detect discrepancies in documentation.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with clinical staff.
