Responsibilities
- Lead complex investigative projects from conception to publication, ensuring accuracy and ethical standards
- Cultivate and maintain confidential sources across government, corporate, and community sectors
- Produce long-form articles, multimedia packages, and data-driven visualizations for print and digital platforms
- Mentor junior journalists and contribute to editorial strategy sessions
- Collaborate with legal team to navigate libel laws and protect journalistic privileges
- Develop expertise in specialized beats (e.g., politics, finance, or social justice)
- Represent the organization at media conferences and public forums
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field (Master's preferred)
- Minimum 7 years of professional journalism experience with proven investigative portfolio
- Demonstrated expertise in public records requests, FOIA litigation, and database analysis
- Exceptional writing and editing skills with published work in reputable outlets
- Strong network of high-level sources across government and industry sectors
- Proficiency in digital tools (CMS, analytics, multimedia editing)
- Ability to work independently under tight deadlines while maintaining journalistic integrity
- Portfolio showcasing impactful investigative pieces with measurable societal impact
