Responsibilities
- Develop and execute long-form investigative projects that result in high-impact national exclusives.
- Cultivate and maintain a diverse network of reliable, high-level sources across public and private sectors.
- Analyze complex data sets and public records to identify patterns, irregularities, and untold stories.
- Collaborate with multimedia teams to integrate video, audio, and interactive graphics into your reporting.
- Ensure the highest standards of journalistic integrity, factual accuracy, and ethical reporting.
- Brief legal teams on sensitive stories and participate in pre-publication editorial reviews.
- Mentor junior reporters and contribute to the broader newsroom culture of excellence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- 5+ years of professional experience in investigative reporting at a major media outlet.
- Proven track record of breaking high-profile news stories that influence policy or public opinion.
- Expert proficiency in FOIA requests, public records laws, and investigative databases (e.g., LexisNexis, PACER).
- Exceptional narrative writing skills with a keen eye for detail and pacing.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines while managing long-term, complex projects.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
