Responsibilities
- Lead long-form investigative projects from initial pitch to publication.
- Conduct deep-dive research, data analysis, and document procurement via FOIA requests.
- Cultivate and maintain a diverse network of high-level confidential sources.
- Collaborate with multimedia editors to produce engaging video, audio, and visual assets for digital distribution.
- Adhere to the highest standards of journalistic ethics, accuracy, and editorial integrity.
- Mentor junior reporters and provide feedback on drafting and source development.
- Participate in editorial board meetings to shape the newsroomâs strategic coverage.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 7+ years of experience in professional newsrooms, with a focus on investigative or long-form reporting.
- Proven track record of producing award-winning, high-impact investigative content.
- Advanced proficiency in data journalism tools (Excel, SQL, R, or Python) for story mining.
- Expert-level writing and editorial judgment with a sharp eye for narrative structure.
- Deep understanding of media law, libel standards, and ethical investigative practices.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure digital newsroom environment.
- A Bachelorâs degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field; Masterâs degree preferred.
